Part 1
Part 2
Part 3: How Israel came to be in Egypt

The day came when a Pharaoh “who knew not Joseph” came to power, and he looked upon the Israelites with wariness and contempt (Ex. 1).

It is hard to imagine a Pharaoh who would come to power who would not only not be grateful for Joseph and the warning that he gave that saved so many lives, but would not even acknowledge that he had existed. The Egyptians have a history of removing names from steles and pyramids and public monuments of former rulers that they disliked. The Pharaoh that came to power was most likely Ramses II, and he was native Egyptian, not Hyksos. And that is important.

Many scholars and researchers believe that it was the Hyksos who may have been in power when Joseph entered Egypt as a slave, and they may have even been in power for a couple hundred years past the time Israel and his sons came to stay, but at some point they were overthrown by an uprising of native Egyptians. The Hyksos had been hated, subsequently their works destroyed and their names stricken from public records and places wherever possible. This may explain, since Joseph was every bit a foreigner as the Hyksos, why Ramses II either didn’t know of him or refused to acknowledge him.

It is clear from the account in Exodus that there were two Pharaohs involved with Moses and his leading of the Israelites from Egypt. One is called the Pharaoh of the Oppression, and the other the Pharaoh of the Exodus. Scholars do not entirely agree upon the names of these two particular Pharaohs, nor for the dates of the Israelites’ sojourn in Egypt, and the date for the Exodus itself is often disputed as well. For the purposes of this particular post, it is not particularly important, but I have chosen to go with the names of Ramses II for the Pharaoh of the Oppression, and the name of his son Merneptah as the Pharaoh of the Exodus (1).

When Ramses II came to power he did not care for the Israelites living in Goshen. Though it is uncertain how the Israelites passed their previous 400 years in Egypt, it is clear they were not enslaved that entire time. Ramses II, concerned that the Israelites might join outside forces if foreigners were to invade once more, consigned them to hard labor, hoping to reduce their numbers by brutal work as state slaves.

Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph.

And he said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we:

Come on, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and so get them up out of the land. --Exodus 1: 8-10

From the Layman’s Bible Commentary:

Pharaoh Ramses II was engaged in a royal building program in which he employed as slave labor a group of people known in Egyptian annals as the Hapiru; the similarity to Hebrew is apparent. One of the cities which Ramses built was Raamses (House of Ramses), mentioned in Exodus 1:11 as one of the cities on which the Hebrews labored (2).

From the New Layman’s Bible Commentary:

Settled in Egypt under royal auspices, in the course of time the Israelites found that they could no longer bask in the reflected glory of Joseph. Several centuries had elaspsed since the patriarch’s death and the Israelite community had developed to the point where the native Egyptians regarded them as a threat to national security (3).

The editors add this additional interesting analysis of verse 10:

Come, let us . . . lest: the Hebrew as much as the English recalls the scheming of the builders of Babel (Gen 11:4). Again the story centres on mortar and brick (14) and city-building (11) . . . Like the builders of Babel, the Egyptians were concerned with self-preservation; the presence of a potential fifth column in their midst was causing great anxiety (I Sam 29:1-11). The Egyptian NE border was the most important strategically and it was in that region that Goshen was located. The Israelites were in an ideal position if they ever saw fit to side with an invading army and free themselves from the Egyptian yoke.

Hester makes this important observation about Ramses II and the Hebrews:

The new ruler inaugurated a new policy toward them. They came to be regarded as foreigners, and because of the very rapid increase in their number they were feared as a potential threat to the security of the government. The Pharaoh, now determined to reduce them to slavery, set cruel taskmasters over them and forced them to do the hardest kind of public work, that of making bricks (4).

From Mould:

The Pharaoh who reduced the Hebrews to slavery most probably was Ramses II, mightiest sovereign of the nineteenth dynasty and ruler of Egypt for sixty-seven years, 1292-1225 B.C. Ramses II enslaved vast numbers of people in order to carry through the ambitious building enterprises by which he sought to enhance his personal glory. A mighty warrior, he sought to recover for Egypt the political control of Palestine and Syria which had been both won and lost by his predecessors of the eighteenth dynasty. He waged a disastrous warfare with the Hittites, who controlled Syria, and thereby damaged his reputation so severely that all Syria and Palestine revolted against him, the revolt spreading even to the frontier forts in the northeastern delta in Egypt itself. Located on this northeastern frontier were these unassimilated foreigners, the Hebrews. Ramses feared that in case of war these Hebrews would side with the enemy. Therefore, to employ them in strengthening the defenses of the border seemed a clever and sensible plan. So they were put to work on the construction of the nearby supply depots, Pithom and Raamses.

Ramses II was at this time engaged in a stupendous building program all up and down the Nile in a desperate effort to restore Egyptian prestige and doubtless to enhance his own as well. He completed the Great Hall of Karnak. Obelisks and colossal statues, especially of himself, were erected in many cities. Two of these (at Tanis and Ramesseum) were originally single blocks of stone weighing nearly a thousand tons apiece (5).

From Irwin:

[Pithom and Raamses] were in the district of Heliopolis (“On,” which name the Septuagint adds to the other two), near the canal which joined the Nile and the Red Sea. “Pithom” (“House of Tum,” the Sun-god worshipped at Heliopolis) was identified by Naville, in 1883, as Tel-el-Maskhuta, about 20 miles from Tel-el-Kebir, and the ruins of the treasure-houses have been found, constructed of two kinds of brick, one ordinary, the other without straw. Raamses, now Tel-el-Retabeh, is about 10 miles west of Pithom (6).

From Henry:

Reasons of state were suggested for their dealing hardly with Israel (Ex. 1: 9, 10). 1. They were represented as more and mightier than the Egyptians; certainly they were not so, but the king of Egypt, when he resolved to oppress them, would have them thought so, and looked on them as a formidable body.

2. Hence it is inferred that if care were not taken to keep them under they would become dangerous to the government, and in time of war would side with their enemies and revolt from their allegiance to the crown of Egypt. Note, It has been the policy of persecutors to represent God’s Israel as a dangerous people, hurtful to kings and provinces, not fit to be trusted, that they may have some pretence for the barbarous treatment they design them. . . . (emphasis Henry).

When men deal wickedly, it is common for them to imagine that they deal wisely; but the folly of sin will, at last, be manifested before all men.

[The Egyptians] took care to keep [the Hebrews] poor, by charging them with heavy taxes, which, some think, is included in the burdens with which they afflicted them. . . . By this means they took an effectual course to make them slaves. . . . Pharaoh took care to find them work, both in building (they built him treasure-cities), and in husbandry, even all manner of service in the field; and this was exacted from them with the utmost rigour and severity. . . . They had taskmasters set over them, who were directed, not only to burden them, but, as much as might be, to afflict them with their burdens, and contrive how to make them grievous. They not only made them to serve, which was sufficient for Pharaoh’s profit, but they made them serve with rigour, so that their lives became bitter to them, intending hereby, (1) to break their spirits, and rob them of everything in them that was ingenuous and generous. (2) To ruin their health and shorten their days, and so diminish their numbers. (3) To discourage them from marrying, since their children would be born to slavery. (4) To oblige them to desert the Hebrews, and incorporate themselves with the Egyptians. Thus he hoped to cut off the name of Israel, that it might be no more in remembrance (7).

From Fausset and Brown:

[The Hebrew’s] increase and prosperity were viewed with jealousy by the new government; and as Goshen lay between Egypt and Canaan, on the border of which latter country were a number of warlike tribes, it was perfectly conformable to the suggestions of worldly policy that they should enslave and mistreat them, through apprehension of their joining in any invasion by those foreign rovers. . . .

Therefore, they did set over them taskmasters -- Having first obliged them, it is thought, to pay a ruinous rent, and involved them in difficulties, that new government, in pursuance of its oppressive policy, degraded them to the condition of serfs - employing them exactly as the labouring people are in the present day in rearing the public works, with taskmasters, who anciently had sticks -- now whips -- to punish the indolent, or spur on the too languid. All public or royal buildings, in ancient Egypt, were built by captives; and on some of them was placed an inscription that no free citizen had been engaged in this servile employment.

They built for Pharaoh treasure cities -- These two store places were in the land of Goshen; and being situated near a border liable to invasion, they were fortified cities. Pithom (Greek Patumos), lay on the eastern Pelusiac branch of the Nile, about twelve Roman miles from Heliopolis; and Raamses, called by the LXX, Heliopolis, lay between the same branch of the Nile and the Bitter Lakes. These two fortified cities were situated, therefore, in the same valley; and the fortifications, which Pharaoh commanded to be built around both, had probably the same common object, of obstructing the entrance into Egypt, which this valley furnished the enemy from Asia.

The Egyptians . . . made their lives bitter with hard bondage, in mortar and in brick. Ruins of great brick buildings are found in all parts of Egypt. The use of crude brick, baked in the sun, was universal in upper and lower Egypt, both for public and private buildings; all but the temples themselves, were of crude brick. . . . Parties of these brickmakers are seen depicted on the ancient monuments with “taskmasters” --some standing, others in a sitting position beside the labourers, with their uplifted sticks in their hands (8).

From Magnusson:

Ramses II was perhaps the most vainglorious Pharaoh of all time. For the latter part of his reign he devoted himself to huge and grandiose building projects, largely designed to perpetuate his own name . . . One of his major buildings was the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple on the west bank of the Nile at Thebes, now in ruins. It was this desolate site that inspired Shelley’s poem Ozymandias (9) of Egypt: “My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”

“How are the mighty fallen!” That was the massive irony that informed Shelley’s poem, and it is an irony that strikes the mind like a bludgeon when you stand at the head of the fallen remains of the largest statue in Egypt: the Colossus of Ramesses the Great. It was nearly twenty metres tall originally, one thousand tons of carved and polished granite now irretrievably ruined by some earthquake. (10)

Treasures cities [were] store cities, situated on the frontier, and serving both as strongholds for defence against invasion and as military depots of provisions and arms. Pithom, i.e. the ‘Abode of the Setting Sun,’ has been identified with Tel-el Maskhuta, . . . . The walls of this ancient city are found to have been constructed of bricks made of Nile mud and chopped straw . Raamses or Rameses, has not yet been identified, but is supposed to have been situated at the modern Tel-el Kebir. It was in existence at the time of Joseph, as appears from Genesis 47:11, so that it was probably repaired or enlarged at a later date (11).

As we can see from the various comments made by these authors, there is agreement that the Hebrews were subjected to not just hard work, but brutal work. Every effort was made by “cruel” taskmasters to make their lives as “grievous” and “ruinous” as possible.

Here is what the Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible says about bricks and brickmaking:

The clay was thoroughly soaked, generally mixed with straw or other vegetable matter, and brought in baskets to the artisan, who shaped the bricks by hand or a wooden mold. Such ancient molds and the pictures of brickmaking have been found. A few of the great monuments of ancient Egypt were made of sun-dried bricks and are still standing (12).

From Harper’s Encyclopedia of Bible Life:

Although brickmaking was a simple process, it required an available source of clay, a sufficient supply of water and straw, and a large labor force. A shallow pit was dug and filled with clay and water. Chopped straw was added as a binder to retain the strength and form of the bricks, and the ingredients were mixed by treading through the mire with the feet. When thoroughly mixed to the right consistency, the solution was compressed into rectangular or square wooden molds and the resulting bricks set out in the sun to dry: “go into the clay, tread the mortar, take hold of the brickmold!” (Nah. 3:14) (13).

From Unger:

Egyptian bricks wre not generally baked in kilns, but dried in the sun, although a brickkiln is mentioned by Jeremiah (43:9). Made of clay, they are, even without straw, as firm as when first put up in the reigns of the Thutmoids and others, whose names they bear. When made of Nile mud they required straw to keep them from falling apart, and when laid up in walls were secured by layers of sticks and reeds. . . . Brickmaking was regarded as an unhealthy and laborious occupation by the Egyptians, and was, therefore, imposed upon slaves. . . . The tomb of Rekhmire, grand vizier of Thutmose III (c. 1460 B.C.) depicts Semitic slaves busy with brickmaking. Raamses II (c. 1290 B.C.) rebuilt the older city Zoan-Avaris (Raamses of Exod 1:11) and the bricks are stamped with his name. (14)

From the Lion Encyclopedia of the Bible:

They began by digging a hole in the ground and filling it with water, chopped straw, palm fibre and bits of shell and charcoal. The workmen then trampled the mixture until they had a soft and pliable mud. Most bricks were laid out to dry in the hot sun. Kilns produced stronger bricks which were used for the foundations. (15)

From the Reader’s Digest Complete Guide to the Bible:

One Egyptian scroll from the time of Ramses II says that the ten men in a work gang had a daily quota of 2,000 bricks. An earlier record written on the wall of a tomb describes such workers as “dirtier than pigs . . . simply wretched through and through.” (16)

It is clear that the work of making bricks was backbreaking. The Israelites had to haul clay from outlying areas and dump into pits, and then from the marshes and wetlands near the Nile River carry water to the pits in order to force the clay into a malleable form.

Bricks were shaped and placed in the sun although some were placed into hot furnaces, kilns, that would bake the bricks into solid forms (17). Though both kinds of bricks are used for building, the bricks from the hot furnaces could withstand the elements longer.

The work was difficult and filthy, and, as one could only imagine, the Hebrews endured many skin infections from working in water for such long stretches at a time. Long exposures of skin to water tends to soften the skin considerably and make it less resistant to tears thus less resistant to bacterial infections. The Hebrews suffered from blisters and boils from working both extensively in water and so closely to the heat of the incredibly hot furnaces used to harden the bricks.

Ramses II did not limit their hard work to just making bricks. Exodus 1:11-14 tells us that Pharaoh “ made their lives bitter with hard bondage in mortar, in brick, in all manner of service in the field.”

Because of the later decree during the time Moses came to Egypt to lead the Hebrews out that the Hebrews had to make bricks without straw being supplied to them, we tend to forget the “other” work that the Hebrews were forced to do -- that of field work.

While several commentaries make note that the Hebrews performed field work, very few mention in detail what that field work involved though it is generally understood that the Hebrews tended the flocks and herds the Egyptians used in temple worship of their gods, particularly Apis, and growing crops. We see from Genesis 47:6 that the pharaoh who welcomed Joseph and his family during the time of famine requested that if any were trained among Joseph’s brothers in husbandry, then they could be assigned to his own herds for employment.

The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

Dummelow makes this note about the “service in the field” forced upon the Hebrews:

This refers to the construction of irrigation canals and embankments, as well as to the making of bricks for building. With what rigour the system of forced labour was employed may be judged from the fact recorded by Herodotus that 120,000 workmen lost their lives in the construction of a canal connecting the Nile and the Red Sea in the time of Pharaoh Necho. In modern times Mohammed Ali’s canal from the Nile to Alexandria cost 20,000 lives. (18)

So we can determine from these brief remarks that herding cattle and ditch-digging were also part of the labor forced upon the Hebrews, and under Ramses II, it appears that this work, in some way, was made even more onerous.

In a further effort to reduce their numbers, Ramses II had the two midwives who helped the Hebrew women (and who are thought to have been Egyptian because of their names) throw all male Hebrew children into the Nile River where they would surely be consumed by crocodiles or drowned. The midwives failed in this effort, and it appears that it was deliberate for when Ramses II demanded they give account of themselves and why there were so many Hebrew baby boys, the midwives claimed that Hebrew women were quite strong and were able to deliver their babies before they got there.(19)

From Henry:

Two bloody edicts are here signed for the destruction of all the male children that wre born to the Hebrews.

1. The midwives were commanded to murder them. Observe, 1. The orders given them, v. 15, 16. It added much to the barbarity of the intended executions that the midwives were appointed to be the executioners; for it was to make them, not only bloody, but perfidious, and to oblige them to betray a trust, and to destroy those whome they undertook to save and help. (20)

When it became clear to Ramses that the Hebrew numbers were not going to be significantly reduced thru his subtle efforts with the midwives, he openly ordered the Hebrew parents themselves to throw their own children into the Nile.

It was during this time that Moses was born. We learn that he was born to a Levite family who already had a son and daughter who had been born prior to the decree that babies must be thrown into the Nile. Moses was hidden for three months and then his mother fashioned a small basket, made it waterproof and placed him in God’s hands.

As Moses’ basket floated along in the reeds and rushes, his sister Miriam watched from nearby. Eventually the basket floated to an area where the daughter of the Pharaoh saw it and opened it and immediately had a tender heart for the baby boy. Miriam offered to find a wet nurse for the child and quickly told her mother, who nursed Moses for a time until he was raised in Pharaoh’s court by his adopted mother.

As Moses grew, we are not told in the Bible of distinct instances of empathy Moses had for his own people, but it is clear that there came a day when he demonstrated it. When an Egyptian was beating a Hebrew slave, Moses killed the Egyptian and hid his body in the sand. The next day, when two fellow Hebrews were arguing he attempted to intervene to which one of them asked if Moses was going to kill him like he did the Egyptian. Moses knew he had been found out, therefore, fearing for his life, fled into the wilderness.

Finding the tent of Jethro, a Midianite by descent from Abraham and his second wife Keturah, Moses found a place to stay. He married Jethro’s daughter Zipporah, and for forty years tended sheep in the wilderness of Midian. (Isn’t it interesting that he chose an occupation that the Egyptians abhorred?)

The day came when Moses was out near Mount Sinai, that he saw a burning bush, and upon investigation, discovered it was a supernatural fire and God spoke to him from the flames.

God was sending him back to Egypt for the pharaoh who Moses had known was now dead, and God had seen the affliction and oppression of His people in Egypt (Ex. 3: 7, 9), and was ready to deliver them. Moses was reluctant to go, citing his poor ability to speak and belief that the people would not accept him.

God allowed Moses’ brother Aaron to accompany him and to speak, and showed Moses through two miracles, that He intended to be with him and to accomplish this exodus.

And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. --Exodus 7:1

God warned Moses that His actions would “harden” pharaoh’s heart, a term indicating that pharaoh would be “offended” and would become obstinate (21).

Delivering the Hebrews out of Egypt was not going to be easy.

Nevertheless, Moses, at about 80 years old, returned to Egypt and thus began a series of confrontations between him and the son of Ramses II, Pharaoh Merneptah.

To be continued in Part 5.

1) Here are some of the pharaohs who are considered by some scholars to be the “Pharoah of the Oppression,” and who might be the “Pharaoh of the Exodus.”

Irwin’s Bible Commentary (1928, pg 29): This Pharaoh is now generally understood to have been Ramses II, called “the Pharaoh of the Oppression” (so Sayce, Brugsch, Ebers). His mummy was found in 1881 at Deir el-Bahari. Two colossal statues of him are to be seen amid the ruins of Memphis, near Bedrashen, 20 miles from Cairo, and some of his hieroglyphics may be seen on Cleopatra’s Needle, now on the Thames Embankment. “The Pharaoh of the Exodus” was his son, Merneptah.

Layman’s Bible Encyclopedia (1964, pg 238): Ramses II as the Pharaoh of the Oppression and his son Merneptah as the Pharaoh of the Exodus.

Jamiesson, Fausset and Brown (copyright date not given, pg 48): Amosis or possibly Thothmes III as the Pharaoh of the Oppression; as for Pharaoh of the Exodus, the commentators do not name him but simply address him as “the Pharaoh.”

Magnus Magnusson notes that “according to the majority of scholars it was the tyrant Ramesses (or perhaps his father Seti I) who grew alarmed at the way in which the Children of Israel had prospered and multiplied,” and thus could have been the Pharaoh of the Oppression. And Magnusson believes it was Merneptah, Ramses II’s successor, who Moses faced upon his return to Egypt. (Archaeology of the Bible, 1977, pg 59)

Merrill F. Unger: If the early date of the Exodus (c. 1441 B.C.) is subscribed to, Thutmose III (c.1482-1450 B.C.) furnishes an ideal figure for the pharaoh of the oppression. According to the Bible, Moses waited for the death of the great oppressor before returning to Egypt from his refuge in Midian (Exod. 3:23). However, late-date theorists commonly identify Seti I (c. 1319-1301) as the pharaoh of the oppression, disregarding the Massoretic chronology. Amenhotep II (c. 1450-1425 B.C.), son of the famous empire-builder Thutmose III, likely is the pharaoh of the Exodus. (Unger’s Bible Dictonary, 1957, pg 853)

Davis Dictionary of the Bible: It is quite generally, though not universally, believed that [the Pharaoh of the Oppression] was Ramses II, third king of the nineteenth dyasty and son of Seti I. (1955, pg 599)

J. R. Dummelow: The Pharaoh of the Oppression is usually supposed to have been Rameses II, and the Pharaoh of the exodus his son and successor Merenptah, who began to reign about the year 1300 B.C. (The One-Volume Bible Commentary, 1936, pg 47)

17) Researchers do not agree on how extensively furnaces were used, with some believing that they were not used at all. Since Exodus 9:8 speaks of a furnace and Gesenius says this is a kiln, I am comfortable with accepting that there were some kilns in use in Egypt for the making of bricks.

18) The One-Volume Bible Commentary, J. R. Dummelow, 1958, pg 49.

19) Some have asked how God could possibly bless the midwives (Exodus 1:20) when it appears that they lied to pharaoh in an effort to thwart his plans. Yet, it should not be suggested that they lied. Instead, verse 19 says that the Hebrew women gave birth BEFORE the midwives arrived. It is possible that the midwives merely delayed arriving too soon so that the Hebrew women gave birth and then the midwives arrived afterwards to help at that time.

Interesting headlines at Drudge today. It looks like Obama may be willing "to go it alone" after the UK fails to back him in "punishing" Syria. Headlines note that Cameron's failure to win his parliament into standing with Obama is the first time since 1782 that a prime minister has lost a war vote. On the SAME DAY that Obama learns that the UK won't be standing with him, his administration issued a directive that homosexuals can now file federal tax returns in ALL states, whether that state recognizes homosexual marriage or not. AND they can adjust their tax returns retroactively for the past 3 years, for 2012, 2011 and 2010.

I find it interesting that Obama is finding himself in the same situation that he has placed the Israelis since 2010 -- alone. Alone against Iran. It is no secret that the Israelis have wanted to take out Iran's nuclear program, particularly since Iran has threatened to wipe them off the face of the earth. But Obama has tied their hands at every turn. He has made it clear on multiple occasions that he does not want Israel to "go it alone." But now, Obama may strike a country that has not threatened the U.S., and certainly not in terms of wiping us off the face of the earth. Yet, it appears Obama may do the very thing he has warned Israel not to do, . . . and with less reason.

I have finished part 4 of DOUBLE PLAGUES and will post it this afternoon. News links in the sidebar will be added then, too. Check back about 2 p.m. if interested.

From Mother Jones: 9 Scary Facts About the Yosemite Fire
(GG note: I don't care for MJ, but this is an interesting article about the wildfire.)

From Reuters:

With an overall footprint that exceeds the land mass of Chicago, the blaze ranks as the sixth-largest California wildfire on record.

Massive wildfire prompts new travel restrictions through Yosemite

From Fox News:

Lee Bentley, a 73-year-old firefighter told that crews in Tuolumne County have used two DC-10 jets to fight the fire for four days.

“It was like a bomb went off, exploded,” Bentley told the station. “When the inversion lifted, the fog coming from the smoke, when it lifted, this fire exploded and it’s been running away ever since."

The fire has swept through steep Sierra Nevada river canyons and stands of thick oak and pine, closing in on Tuolumne City and other mountain communities. It has confounded ground crews with its 300-foot walls of flame and the way it has jumped from treetop to treetop.

Massive Yosemite wildfire destroys 111 buildings, threatens thousands

From the Weather Channel:

The Rim Fire started Aug. 17 and quickly exploded in size, becoming one of the 10 largest California wildfires on record. Its progression slowed earlier this week when it moved from parts of the forest with thick underbrush that had not burned in nearly a century to areas that had seen fire in the past two decades.

But it will burn for months, possibly until California's dry season ends this fall.

"My prediction is it will burn until we see rain," said Hugh Safford, a regional ecologist with the U.S. Forest Service.

Yosemite Wildfire Update: National Guard Launches Unmanned Drone to Monitor the Fire

From Mail Online:

. . . the Rim Fire is killing everything in its path. The understory ignites trees, and wind is sweeping the fire from treetop-to-treetop in 300-foot walls of flame.

Scientists also expect the impact on wildlife to be severe. The fire has encompassed nearly the entire migratory range of deer in the region, and the burning treetops likely displaced many of the remaining 300 members of a subset of Great Gray Owl along the Yosemite border, said Daniel Applebee of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

‘Because their population is so small, any loss is significant,’ Applebee said.

The fire also cut through habitat of the Pacific fisher, a weasel-like animal that is listed for state and federal protections. The fire has fragmented its range, likely leaving it nowhere to expand, Applebee said.

No, not their "West Bank," ours.

California's Yosemite wildfire is still not contained, and Mail Online is reporting, "California wildfire now tainting 85 percent of San Francisco's drinking water as massive blaze rains ash down into the city's largest reservoir." Mail Online notes that San Francisco is home to 2.6 million people.

Mail Online also notes that the wildfire is the largest ever in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and is three times the size of San Francisco. There are some really sobering photos in the article.

While the wildfire burns out of control, Arne Gunderson is noting that California's troubles from Fukushima are advancing on the horizon.

Gundersen: Radioactive plume to impact West Coast in a year — Not going away after it hits… likely to only get stronger — Fukushima will keep releasing contamination for years to come

In the meantime, as thousands, if not millions, of homeowners in California and along the West Coast face the loss of their homes or loss of the value of their homes as uncertainty about the effects of Fukushima increase, President Obama is "Funding $313M in Mortgages—For Palestinians on West Bank."

It would have been nice to post YOSEMITE WILDFIRE yesterday as it was ready to go, but not possible if there is no Internet access.

First though, Syria. Many Americans, whether interested in prophecy or not, are watching Syria. The recent ramp-up of tensions concerning Syria in the last two years has many more people aware of Isaiah’s prophecy that Damascus will become a “ruinous heap.”

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap. -- Isaiah 17:1

When this prophecy does come to pass, it has the potential to set off a chain of events that will lead to other prophecies being fulfilled.

Russia and China are warning Obama, "Don't do it."

I've written before about what Dimitru Duduman has said about a future alliance between Russia and China and how that will turn out badly . . . for the U.S.

The Yosemite fire, officially called the “Rim” fire, is really gaining national attention, mainly because it is threatening 2,000-year-old giant sequoias and has created a state of emergency for the city of San Francisco. Both power lines and water supplies into the city are threatened.

The wildfire began from unknown causes on August 17. Peace talks were held in Jerusalem on August 14 and again on August 20. This fire broke out in between. It shows little sign of abating.

On August 16, Christopher Lane was murdered in Duncan, Oklahoma. Since his murder there have been two more murders of white people by black teens-- that of “Shorty” Belton, an 88-year-old WW2 veteran who was beaten to death by two black teens, and 99-year-old Fannie Gumbinger, who was beaten to death by a 20-year-old black thug (sorry, can’t bring myself to call him a “man”).

Ms. Fannie Gumbinger was 99 years old . . .

We have come to think of Yosemite as one of the most beautiful and iconic places inside America. Her scenery is stunning and has been immortalized in countless photographs and prints, particularly by Ansel Adams. The name “Yosemite” is a Native American name. The Miwoks lived outside of Yosemite, and the name “Yosemite” was the name they gave to the Native Americans who lived inside the region we now call Yosemite. The name means “they are killers.”

Interesting that a tremendous wildfire would erupt just outside of Yosemite and then spread into it, a place with the name meaning “they are killers” on the heels of peace talks in Jerusalem in which President Obama forced the Israelis to release murderers, “killers,” onto their streets as part of the “deal.” Yosemite is literally on the “west bank” of America. The Obama-pushed peace talks are negotiating the fate of the “West Bank” of Israel. It has been reported that President Obama pushed the European Union to boycott goods from Israel’s West Bank as a means of economic punishment. Now, $1 billion has been spent fighting 51 fires in our western states, not to mention the tourist dollars that have gone up in flames as well, particularly in Yosemite.

And the Internet is abuzz about Miley Cyrus’ performance at the MTV awards. Many were (are) outraged by her blatant and vulgar gyrations imitating sex acts. Several sources noted that Cyrus stripped down to flesh-toned underwear, and, as she is wont to do, let her tongue protrude frequently during her “routine.” Even the "teddie" she was wearing briefly before she ripped it off bore a teddy bear with its tongue protruding.

Quite interesting that tongue protrusion thing. In Hindu mythology the Hindus worship Kali, a very vile and demonic goddess. Some claim that she is the consort of Shiva, other’s claimed that she is the female energy of Shiva, or, in other words, Shiva as an enraged female.

Kali is well known for stripping off her clothes and dancing horrifically on the battle field with her tongue constantly protruding. She is the goddess of burial grounds, and more specifically, of the cremation grounds. Kali means “black night,” which is another way of saying “dark night” thus “dark knight” or Batman. During her debauched performance, Cyrus wore her hair as two “horns” on top of her head -- similar to the “ears” of Batman.

In the YouTube video “I, PET GOAT II,” Kali is shown during the dance sequence that features her transforming into various gods, including Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god of South American mythology.

Kali, as depicted in I, PET GOAT II:

Kali transformed into Quetzalcoatl in I, PET GOAT II:

You get the idea.

It has been suggested that “I, PET GOAT, II” is a symbolic video suggesting the destiny of President Obama -- that he will be transformed into a saviour of the world. President Obama’s campaign theme in 2008 was “Hope.” Curious, as Miley Cyrus’ birth name is Destiny Hope.

Talking about the murder of Christopher Lane here in Oklahoma by three teenagers who were "bored" and wanted a "thrill" continues in the media. Many on the Left, including Jesse Jackson, are irritated that the murder of Lane is being compared to the death of Trayvon Martin.

Jesse Jackson Criticizes Comparisons of Trayvon Martin, Christopher Lane

Now, an elderly WW2 vet in Spokane, Washington, has been beaten to death. The suspects are two black teens, and there is no known motive for why the teens would kill this senior citizen who was nicknamed "Shorty." Like Lane, it appears Shorty was picked at random. Strangely enough, Lane was killed in the "heartland" of America; Shorty died at Sacred Heart.

World War Two veteran, 88, dies after being brutally beaten by two teenagers in 'random attack' in parking lot

J. Robert Smith points out that in the killing of Christopher Lane, there seems to be some indications that the teens wanted to be associated with the Crips, a street gang that surfaced in Los Angeles a number of years ago.

Smith makes this interesting note: The Crips seem like Al Qaida precursors . . .

His comment immediately struck me because of what Richard Coombes had stated just before he passed away -- that he believed "fanners" were coming to America that would be part of her downfall. He believed these "fanners" were most likely individuals or small groups that would be associated with terrorist organizations.

BORDERS OR NUCLEAR-ARMED IRAN (Scroll down to "Part 1" and click for Coombes' comments.) asked in 2002, if prison gangs were "breeding grounds" for al Qaeda.

Gangs, prison: Al Qaeda breeding grounds?

Some news accounts are noting that Shorty saw action in WW2 at the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Wikipedia notes that the U.S. wanted to take the island because of its proximity to Japan -- the U.S. intended to invade Japan in a ground battle, and Okinawa was to be the Launchpad. Things didn't come to that because of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The U.S.'s codename for the plans to take Okinawa was called Operation Iceberg. Iceberg may be fitting because of the old saying "the tip of the iceberg," meaning that there is more to come. And with the taking of Okinawa that was true, there was more to come. Like Japan. The U.S. codename for the taking of Japan was called OPERATION DOWNFALL.

Now, a U.S. vet who participated in an operation that meant "the tip of the iceberg" and helped prepare the way for a second operation, that of the downfall of a country, is beaten so badly that he dies a short time later at a hospital named Sacred Heart.

And, interestingly enough, is this vet's nickname. Since he is white, we would assume the nickname "Shorty" to mean his height -- he might not have been very tall. However, for blacks, "shorty" can refer to a really pretty female or A GANG MEMBER, and according to the Urban dictionary, one who is usually young and newly initiated.

Shorty's actual name is Delbert Belton. Delbert is a variation of Albert, a name meaning "noble" and "bright." But interestingly, Belton is an English name meaning "settlement."

As we are watching here on this blog what could be the consequences of the U.S.-pushed peace talks, an elderly man who saw action in WW2 in Operation Iceberg in preparation for Operation Downfall and whose given name means "bright" and "noble" and "settlement" with a nickname meaning a gang member is beaten to death in a senseless murder in the aftermath of peace talks which pushed for the release of murderers onto Israeli streets.

My purpose in writing about this man is not to be heartless or unfeeling because, in fact, I feel very deeply for those who love this old patriot -- there will be no way to make sense of his tragic death. My purpose in noting this WW2 vet's death is to look at the timing of so many "coincidences" between when the U.S., or any country for that matter, forces concessions from the Israelis to the Palestinians we suffer the very same things here in the U.S. As we have forced the Israelis to release murderers in this latest round of peace talks, we have now seen two very high profile murders, which may only be the tip of the iceberg. As we forced the Israelis to release prisoners, we've seen some high-profile prison breaks involving terrorist groups with avowed hatred of the U.S., including al Qaeda. Now, the murder in Duncan, Oklahoma, involved teens who are suspected of wanting to be Crips gang members, a gang associated with prisons and possibly al Qaeda.

Shorty was a hero in life, a WW2 vet who fought for his country. Shorty's very public death seems to be a warning: his violent, senseless death is the tip of the iceberg of what will be the downfall, not of Japan, but of America at the hands of gang members, and it may well be because of what this president is pushing for in the peace talks -- for Israel to relinquish settlements.

Many Americans are truly sorry for what happened to this old man on his way to meet some friends and shoot a few rounds of pool. And we grieve for where America is headed.

The West Bank area of Israel is part of the negotiations in the U.S.-led peace talks. As Kerry encourages Israel to give up as much as possible for "peace," our Western states have seen more than 50 wildfires out of control. Costs have reached $1 billion in an effort to contain them.

Fifty-one major uncontained wildfires are burning throughout the West, according to the center, including in California, Alaska, Arizona, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. More than 19,000 firefighters were fighting the fires.

More than 50 large wildfires burn throughout western US

The U.S. has forced Israel to release murderers as part of the negotiations. Now, a senseless murder here in Oklahoma, which might have gone without media attention except the victim was an Australian. The White House claimed when asked in Wednesday's press briefing that they were unaware of any murder in Oklahoma. Strange considering how much data the NSA collects and the fact that Australia has called for a boycott of tourism to the U.S. Rush Limbaugh pointed out that many on the Left threw a bigger fit over a rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask than the murder of this 22-year-old man.

Peace talks were held again in Jerusalem yesterday on Tuesday, August 20.

Israel, Palestinians hold third round of peace talks

Three stories appeared in the headlines on the SAME day, all of which spell serious trouble for President Obama.

The first, Egypt.

June 4, 2009, President Obama went to Cairo, Egypt, to give his first major foreign policy speech from a stage in the Arab world. Many wondered what he would say about Muslims in general, since many believe him to be a secret Muslim (see note below), and about Israel in particular.

The Egyptians were very excited to have President Obama came to Egypt. Perhaps many thought that he would “come out of the closet” and confirm what many believe, or at least hoped -- that his heart didn’t just beat with theirs, it was theirs. Street vendors created a special souvenir to commemorate the occasion -- a recreation of a well-known death mask, that of King Tut, and replaced Tut’s face with Obama’s.

Obama, Egypt, June 4, 2009:

It was in this speech that President Obama made it clear what he believed about Israel's “settlements,” and that Jerusalem was meant to be the home of the three great faiths -- Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

In February 2011, as the Arab Spring began burning throughout the Middle East, Obama called for the ouster of the very man who provided him his stage in Cairo -- Hosni Mubarak. Many were surprised as Mubarak has been seen as a stabilizing force in the Middle East as well as a reliable ally because he had honored the peace treaty that Egypt signed with Israel in 1979. However, the Saudis weren’t just surprised, they were angry at Obama for calling for Mubarak’s ouster as they have been longtime allies with Mubarak.

Mubarak was removed from office by the Egyptian military and the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that many Egyptians believe to be a stronghold of terrorists, took Mubarak’s place. Since that time, there have been numerous riots and confrontations in the streets of Cairo. However, in late June, tensions really began to boil over and Muhammed Morsi, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood was removed by the Egyptian military. Deadly riots broke out with hundreds dead and thousands wounded. Many Egyptians hold President Obama responsible for fomenting the rioting because of his open support for Morsi.

Now, on the same day as “secret” peace talks, photographs began emerging of Egyptians carrying signs in Cairo, but this time the signs have nothing to do with Egypt’s favorite pharaoh; instead, the signs are curses.

Obama, Egypt, August 19, 2013:

On June 9th I wrote a post about ANOTHER SITS IN HIS PLACE, in which I noted that Psalm 109 has been spoken against President Obama, so much so that when one googles “Obama Prayer,” Psalm 109 is the top hit. Psalm 109 is considered a “psalm of imprecation,” or a psalm of cursing. Most people speak verse 8 in connection with Obama.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

But look at verses 17-20:

As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him . . . and it has and from the very place he thought he would become much vaunted in the annals of world history. Instead, a mere four years later, Obama is being cursed in the strongest of terms.

We are watching President Obama fall to his knees in a city that won’t let him stand back up on his feet easily . . . or without a price.

Which brings us to Mubarak.

Obama called for Mubarak’s ouster. Obama saw him tried and imprisoned without so much as a supportive word. Mubarak was supposed to be in prison for life. In fact, he is supposed to be dead as he has suffered a series of health crises while serving his prison term. Now, an Egyptian court has ordered Mubarak to be FREED, and maybe as soon as tomorrow.

Talk about someone coming back from the dead.

And in the worst way.

Reuters is reporting that Mubarak probably has no political future, but that isn’t the same as saying he will have no political say. The overthrow of Morsi and the change in prison sentence for Mubarak are sending a strong signal that Obama may be on the wrong side of history in his decision. Talk about uncertainty! How does Obama save face if Mubarak becomes a factor, not necessarily a leader, but at least a factor in Egypt’s government once more? How can he comfortably say, “Well, I didn’t really want you gone”?

He can't.

Egyptian court orders Mubarak's release

The second, Christopher Lane.

Christopher Lane was catapulted onto the national scene because of three teenage boys here in Oklahoma who created a “reverse Trayvon Martin” scenario.

In June, the U.S. was riveted by the dramatic trial of George Zimmerman. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in a Florida town, was accused of hunting down 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and deliberately shooting him. Prosecutors claimed Zimmerman just wanted to shoot a black kid. Defense attorneys said it was self-defense because Martin jumped Zimmerman and knocked him to the ground and started pummeling him. The jury agreed with the defense.

President Obama came out from the White House and decided to interject himself into the trial by declaring that if he had a son, he would “look like Trayvon.” Because Martin was wearing a hoodie when he was killed, many in America who believed the race bait narrative wore hoodies in support. President Obama was even photoshopped wearing a grey one.

Once Zimmerman was found “not guilty,” President Obama emerged once more from the White House to make a comment, this time to show his displeasure with the verdict. President Obama condemned “stand your ground” laws which allow citizens to defend themselves. He claimed that rather than “stand your ground,” citizens had a “duty to retreat.” He repeated that claim recently by advising young students that if a shooter comes into their school and starts shooting, to “run and hide.” Most would hazard a guess that most students would already do that anyway. Many even took note that Zimmerman’s defense did not even engage the “stand your ground” laws as Zimmerman was laying on the ground and had no place to retreat to, so President Obama, a Constitutional law professor, created a "what?" moment when he condemned something that wasn't even a factor in the trial.

Now, in small-town Duncan, Oklahoma, a white man from Australia, who came here to play baseball for a small college, went out for a jog on Friday night and was killed when he passed by the home of three “bored” black teenagers who, according to the initial interview they gave to the police, wanted to go kill somebody for the “thrill” of it. Lane happened to be the handiest. They got in a car and went after him, and while he was jogging, pulled up behind him and shot him in the back and left him in a ditch where he died.

This wasn’t a confrontation. This wasn’t a “stand your ground” situation. It wasn’t even self-defense. In fact, Lane was ironically doing what President Obama recommended for confrontations anyway, running.

Where is Jesse Jackson? Where is Al Sharpton? Where is MSNBC? But more importantly, where is President Obama?

Lane is NOT an American citizen, so Obama can’t just turn a blind eye to it, pretend it’s a local matter only, and NOT comment. Lane was Australian -- it is now an international incident.

Three boys, who don’t look all that different from Trayvon Martin, have committed a heinous crime. In the Old West of about 120 years ago, to shoot someone in the back was the most cowardly of crimes -- 120 years later, it still is.

Race baiters tried to paint Zimmerman as someone who HUNTED Martin down to kill him just because Martin was black. NBC even had to fire someone for editing a 911 call that made it appear Zimmerman claimed to have done just that. Now, it really has happened, only it is three black boys who admitted to the officers that they deliberately hunted down Lane to shoot him just “for the fun of it.” And like Martin, one of them is 17!  Already there are calls in the media to not label it a “hate crime,” because there is no proof that they did this just because Lane was white.

Too late! The hypocrisy is stunning, and it will be made all the more glaring if President Obama does not condemn this and soon. I actually have serious doubts that he will do so, but will note it if he does.

In the meantime, the spoofing has already begun. But this is because HIS words that came out of HIS mouth are boomeranging back upon him now.

The third, Fukushima.

On the SAME day as the Obama-pushed peace talks in Jerusalem, we get horrible news from Japan: Fukushima is much getting worse than we could have ever imagined.

ENE News has been consistently linking to news accounts for the past 2-3 weeks that all was not what it seemed at the badly-damaged nuclear reactor, reactor #4, at Fukushima, and I have linked to several of those reports in the daily news links on my sidebar. Crippled in the massive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March 2011, we have had random news reports in the past two years of ongoing efforts to stabilize the damaged reactor. News had gone somewhat off the radar as far as most news organizations were concerned because, hey!, it was far more fun to talk about Kim Kardashian and Kanye’s baby girl or the latest “gay” athlete to come out, and, of course, how George Zimmerman hunted down and murdered an innocent youth who only wanted to eat his Skittles in peace.

Now, we are learning that the damaged reactor is leaking much more radiation than ever reported, and it is in a concentrated plume heading towards the U.S. west coast.

Study shows Fukushima nuclear pollution becoming more concentrated as it approaches U.S. West Coast — Plume crosses ocean in a nearly straight line toward N. America — Appears to stay together with little dispersion (MODEL)

When the earthquake struck in 2011, and we learned in the immediate days afterward that a nuclear power plant had been crippled, severely no less, I wrote a post about what David Wilkerson had said about an earthquake in Japan preceding one here, AND in the same post noted what evangelist A.A. Allen had written about a “death cloud” coming over America’s west coast that also fanned out to the center part of the U.S. and traveled down thru the heartland. Not possible someone said to me. I replied, “Have you not ever heard of the jet stream? It takes dives down the center part of the U.S. all the time.” In fact, right now, Oklahoma is getting some of the particulates from the wildfires in Utah because of the jet stream.

President Obama, at the SAME TIME as he is pushing the THIRD round of peace talks forward, is being confronted with THREE situations that threaten to spiral out of control, and all three involve foreign countries where it will take more than his mere assumptions of his persona to solve.

Egypt is now openly cursing him on the streets of Cairo, and a leader that he called for the ouster of and was assumed as good as dead is suddenly being released and is returning from the grave.

Australia is now openly calling for tourists to boycott America for the senseless killing of Christopher Lane, and Lane’s cold-blooded murder makes a mockery of President Obama’s statements in the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman murder case. Make no mistake -- to not make a similar statement condemning these three black boys for hunting down a white man will be the height of hypocrisy.  It threatens to become a major international incident.

And Japan. Japan is now warning that reactor #4 at Fukushima is far more damaged than they initially reported, and that a deadly plume of radiation is headed straight for the west coast of the United States. The uncertainties are abundant: How much of the coast will be affected? How far inland? What kind of effects will be seen? And most importantly -- Will our government tell us much of what they know, if anything? If not, will another “Edward Snowden” take risks to let Americans know?

Note:  Many believe that President Obama is a secret Muslim. While I believe he has strong empathy for Muslims and their beliefs, I do not believe he is a true convert to Islam. I believe it more likely that he is a worshipper of Hanuman and have pointed out in several posts Obama's several connections to Hanuman, including participating in Diwali festivals and having a senior priest of a Hanuman temple in Maryland host the first Diwali celebration ever in the White House.

Here is the latest YouTube from scrawnytobrawny, noting some of the synchronicities in the messaging between the two movies The Matrix and "V."

Monday, August 19, 2013

I spent the weekend looking at three articles by Raymond Ibrahim that were very interesting as he offers some insights into what is going on in Egypt right now, and the tension between the Egyptian military and the U.S.

For over 30 years, the Egyptian military and the U.S. have enjoyed a good relationship, but that has been spiraling out of control of late, and has apparently deteriorated to the point where it is being reported that top leaders in the Egyptian military are refusing to take phone calls from President Obama or members of his administration, although there appears to be some communication left with the Pentagon. How fragile that is, isn't being reported.

First article, Ibriham writes about the Muslim Brotherhood's connection to the terrorist attack on Benghazi.

Evidence that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood was directly involved in the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, where Americans including U.S. ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens were killed, continues to mount.

First, on June 26, 2013, I produced and partially translated what purported to be an internal Libyan governmental memo which was leaked and picked up by many Arabic websites. According to this document, the Muslim Brotherhood, including now ousted President Morsi, played a direct role in the Benghazi consulate attack. “Based on confessions derived from some of those arrested at the scene,” asserted the report, six people, “all of them Egyptians” from the jihad group Ansar al-Sharia (Supporters of Islamic Law), were arrested. . . .

Four days after this memo appeared, the military-backed June 30 Egyptian revolution took place. . . .

Walid Shoebat followed up with some important investigative work concerning the Libyan document, including by documenting that Western sources had finally acknowledged that there is a group called Ansar al-Sharia operating in Egypt with a cell in Libya, and that, with the ouster of Muhammad Morsi, it (along with al-Qaeda) had declared jihad on Egypt’s military (not to mention regular civilians in general, and Coptic Christians in particular).

The fact is, days after the Benghazi attack back in September 2012, Muslim Brotherhood connections appeared. A video made during the consulate attack records people approaching the beleaguered U.S. compound; one of them yells to the besiegers in an Egyptian dialect, “Don’t shoot—Dr. Morsi sent us!” apparently a reference to the former Islamist president.

Most recently, on July 29, 2013, Ahmed Musa, a prominent Egyptian political insider and analyst made several assertions on Tahrir TV that further connected the dots. During his program, while berating U.S. ambassador Anne Patterson for her many pro-Brotherhood policies—policies that have earned her the hate and contempt of millions of Egyptians—Musa insisted that he had absolute knowledge that the murderer of Chris Stevens was Mohsin al-‘Azzazi, whose passport was found in Brotherhood leader Khairet al-Shatter’s home, when the latter was arrested. According to the firm assurances of political analyst Musa, ‘Azzazi is currently present in Raba‘a al-Adawiya, where he, the seasoned terrorist, is preparing to do what he does best—terrorize Egypt, just as the Brotherhood have promised, in revenge for the ousting of Morsi. (emphasis mine)

Let's take a moment to see what I've placed in bold. I linked to an article a couple of days ago in which Walid Shoebat claimed that the son of a Muslim Brotherhood leader said his father had incriminating information that could land President Obama in jail, a leader named Khairet al-Shatter. Now, we see al-Shatter's name being mentioned here again as having in his home the passport of the man accused of the murder of Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Interesting, wouldn't you say?

I've also put in bold the date, July 29. July 29 is the day much-hailed direct peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians were held in Washington, D.C. So, on the SAME day as direct talks between the Israelis and Palestinians were being held, pushed forward by President Obama, and talks which involved the releasing of 104 (in four groups) of murderers of Israeli women and children, a leader with the Muslim Brotherhood is arrested in Egypt who not only claims he has information that could put Obama in prison, but also has in his possession the passport of the terrorist accused of killing Chris Stevens. On the SAME day.

Ibrahim continues:

But why would Morsi and the Brotherhood attack the consulate in Libya in the first place? The day before the embassy attacks, based on little known but legitimate Arabic reports, I wrote an article titled “Jihadis Threaten to Burn U.S. Embassy in Cairo,” explaining how Islamists—including al-Qaeda—were threatening to attack the U.S. embassy in Cairo unless the notorious Blind Sheikh—an Islamist hero held in prison in the U.S. in connection to the first World Trade Center bombing—was released. The date September 11 was also deliberately chosen to attack the embassy to commemorate the “heroic” September 11, 2001 al-Qaeda strikes on America. (Regardless, the Obama administration, followed by the so-called mainstream media, portrayed the embassy attacks as unplanned reactions to an offensive movie.)

The theory is this: in order to negotiate the release of the Blind Sheikh, the Islamists needed an important American official to barter in exchange. And while the violence on U.S. embassies began in Egypt, it seemed logical that kidnapping an American official from neighboring Libya would be less conspicuous than in Egypt, where Egyptians, including Morsi, were calling for the release of the Egyptian Blind Sheikh. Thus the U.S. consulate in Libya was attacked, Chris Stevens kidnapped, but in the botched attempt, instead of becoming a valuable hostage, he wound up dead.

If this is ever proven to be true, this will be beyond some "PR nightmare" for Obama -- it most likely will lead to one of the most spectacular crash and burns of a president and his administration -- ever.

Ibrahim addresses why Obama has been pressuring the Egyptian military to release the Muslim Brotherhood leaders.

Add to all this the fact that, despite the very serious charges filed against them—including inciting murder and terrorism, and grand treason—the Obama administration, first with Anne Patterson, and now with Senators John McCain and Lindsay Graham, keep pressuring Egypt to release Brotherhood leaders; McCain personally even visited the civilian al-Shatter, whose raided home revealed the passport of ‘Azzazi, whom Musa claims is the murderer of Stevens.

Needless to say, at this point, tens of millions of Egyptians are convinced that U.S. leadership is fully aware of the Brotherhood’s connection to Benghazi—and hence desperately pushing for the release of Brotherhood leadership, lest, when they are tried in Egypt’s courts, all these scandals become common knowledge. (emphasis mine)

Ahhhh, now we get it. Obama easily controls the MSM here in the U.S. If he doesn't want something he does or a decision he's made to be reported on, he simply makes a phone call and some editor simply does as told -- he/she will look away while Obama adjusts his slip.

That isn't the case with the Egyptian media. The flames of hatred against the U.S. are fanned pretty hot right now as we are perceived as supporting the Muslim Brotherhood, an organization that many Egyptians clearly view as a terrorist one. If the Egyptian military puts any of the MB leadership on trial, it appears that President Obama's name will be brought up. In what context and just how legitimately it should be there are different questions, but those answers may become secondary as all that matters is that he may be cast in a less than unflattering light, and in an arena that he cannot control.

Though I excerpted several key passages, Ibrahim wrote more. It may be worth your two minutes to read it and put it somewhere on your radar.

Behind Benghazi: Muslim Brotherhood and Obama Administration

Second article, Ibrahim tells us that the Egyptian military has warned President Obama he has crossed a redline with them.

. . . the overwhelming majority of Egyptians reject Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood — and that “the military does not accept any external dictates and will not permit any nation to support terrorism in Egypt,” a reference to the fact that U.S. support for the Brotherhood is support for terrorism.

Military sources reportedly also told Watan news that contact with the American administration has completely ceased, though it remains open with the Pentagon, “which informed the Egyptian side of its fears concerning [Egypt's] closeness to Russia.

Egyptian Military Warns Obama: ‘Supporting Terrorism’ in Egypt is ‘Red Line’

If the Pentagon is not happy with any perceived "closeness" Egypt may have to Russia, then what are they sweating now that it is being reported that Egypt is sending a delegation to meet with Russia's Putin? And more importantly, what is President Obama sweating? If there is one thing abundantly clear at this time it is that Putin is not afraid of Obama, and worse, doesn't respect him.

And since the delegation is going in person and not using the phones, Obama's NSA won't be privy to this conversation.

Exclusive Report: Egypt Sending Diplomatic Mission to Russia

Third article: Ibrahim notes the growing rage in Egypt towards President Obama and, thus, the U.S. Apparently sending John McCain and Lindsey Graham made things worse.

In the eyes of tens of millions of Egyptians, Senators John McCain’s and Lindsey Graham’s recent words and deeds in Egypt—which have the “blessing” of President Obama—have unequivocally proven that U.S. leadership is aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Egyptian media is awash with stories of the growing anger regarding this policy.

. . . Ahmed al-Zind, head of the Egyptian Judge Club, called for the arrest and trial of McCain for “trying to destroy Egypt.” The leader of the youth movement, Tamarod (or “Rebellion” against the Brotherhood) which played a major role in mobilizing the June 30 Revolution, said “We reject John McCain and call on the international community to let the [Egyptian] people decide their own fate.” Another incensed secular political commentator, Ahmed Musa, asserted that “These two men have made more shameless demands than the Brotherhood themselves would dare,” adding:

He [McCain] is not a man elected by the American people to speak on their behalf; today, he speaks on behalf of an armed terrorist organization—the Muslim Brotherhood… We had expected [better] from these two men who came to speak with the tongue of the Brotherhood’s leadership, and as if they had been recruited as two new leaders of the Brotherhood, which killed, destroyed, and burned in al-Muqattam, and now in Rab‘a al-Adawiya [the main Brotherhood camp]. The only thing missing is to see them [McCain and Graham] in Rab‘a, surrounded by armed groups, and in their midst Muhammad Badie [supreme leader of the Brotherhood] and [U.S. ambassador] Anne Patterson. That’s all that’s missing! Here comes Brother McCain today saying that we must “release the [Brotherhood] prisoners”…. are you not aware that these people are accused of murder? Are you not aware that hundreds of Egyptians have been killed at the hands of the Brotherhood, Morsi, Shatter, Qatatni, Badie, Baltagi—have you forgotten? Did you not read the report on what happened? Or did you just blindly accept your ambassador’s [Anne Patterson’s] words that it was a coup, that 33 million people did not go out?

Make no mistake -- this is a stunning rebuke! McCain and Graham are perceived as and accused of making "shameless demands."

My question has been why would McCain and Graham run this errand for Obama? Why didn't Obama send two trusted Democrats?

I'm not sure yet, but something does not look right.

Ibrahim continues with this information about the connection between McCain and al-Shatter, the MB leader who claims he has information that could land Obama in prison:

McCain also personally visited Khairat al-Shatter, the multi-millionaire deputy chief of the Brotherhood who is currently incarcerated on charges of treason and terrorism. Interestingly, Shatter was not even a member of Morsi’s government. Why is McCain visiting a civilian? Shatter’s status as a major figure in the largest Islamist organization in the world is leading Egyptians to connect the dots. Even Shatter himself, understanding the awful visuals, asked McCain to visit “the legitimate president” Morsi instead.

Yes, why is McCain visiting al-Shatter?

Ibrahim again:

U.S. media has said little about the administration’s ties to al-Shatter; however these ties are well-known among Egyptians: ambassador Anne Patterson was frequently seen going to Shatter’s residence.

So why is our ambassador also visiting al-Shatter?

Could these three articles explain one piece of the puzzle -- the money?

President Obama has made it clear that he is reluctant to cut off U.S. aid and funding to Egypt though several members of Congress are calling on him to do just that. Could it be that he is gambling in a bid to not further agitate Egyptian military leaders? If they already won't take his phone calls, what would they do, or say, if he calls for the money to be cut off? What have the Egyptian military leaders to lose at that point? I guess I am asking, is the money being used in an effort to keep some things quiet, at least for as long as possible?

Amidst all this drama, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Egyptian military is "reviewing" its relationship with the U.S.

Egypt, U.S. on Collision Course

And George Ure at Urban Survival believes that the "real story – and the one which the US can not afford to lose because of its economic implications is the one unfolding in slow-motion in Saudi Arabia. Yes, we’re talking the Saudis who recently gave $2-billion to the military government of Egypt."

The Story Being Missed Is . . .

Serious tensions have been escalating between the U.S. and Egypt, and perhaps it is no coincidence that these tensions began in seriousness between July 29 and August 14, the duration between the peace talks in D.C., followed by the talks in Jerusalem.

In yesterday’s post, I took note of an open letter written by Israeli Knesset member MK Ayelet Shaked to Secretary of State John Kerry.

While discussing Shaked’s letter with Daniel at Prayers for the People, he and I came to the conclusion that Shaked had actually asked Secretary Kerry a question very similar to what Jesus asked the religious leaders about John the Baptist.

And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority?

And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things.

The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. --Matthew 21: 23-27 (emphasis mine)

Jesus asked the chief priests about the baptism of John, and we see the difficulty they had in responding in verses 25 and 26.

John Kerry, and thus President Obama, is now in the SAME position as the chief priests with this question by Shaked in her letter:

By forcing Israel to capitulate to terrorism by releasing murdering terrorists with so much blood on their hands that the US would never dream of releasing if it was their own citizens murdered – you are not only being extremely hypocritical, but are actually dabbling in experimentation and gambling, by putting me and my children’s lives at risk . . .

How will you carry the burden of the terrible price toward which you are leading us?

If Kerry answers that there is NO burden because the released terrorists, many of whom were imprisoned for murdering Israeli women and children, will NOT murder again, then how does he or, more importantly, President Obama GUARANTEE that these murderers won’t murder again?

They can’t. It is simply not possible.

If these two men, Kerry and Obama, CANNOT guarantee that these murderers won’t murder again then the quandry becomes that if Kerry and Obama cannot guarantee that these murderers won’t murder then shouldn’t they not force the release of these terrorists?

If Obama and Kerry were to agree with Shaked that these murderers could murder again, the question becomes “Why release them then?”

Neither Kerry, and certainly not President Obama, will backpedal the demand because they simply can’t afford to. To do so would be to admit that their demand is wrong. And if that demand were to be conceded as misguided or faulty, then other demands could also be subject to further scrutiny, particularly those that involve weakening Israel’s security by forcing Israel to withdraw from land currently used as buffer zones from hostile neighbors.

Therefore, like the hypocritical chief priests of Jesus’ day, Kerry and Obama are forced to not answer Shaked’s question.

Daniel has written a post about the formation of Tropical Storm Erin. Erin formed as the talks in Jerusalem were being concluded. Bill Koenig in his book Eye to Eye has noted many a time when tropical storms formed when presidents have pushed the Israelis on the peace process. Some of these storms have developed into strong hurricanes, others have become mainly heavy rain-makers, while others have simply not produced at all.

In this instance with Erin, it is unknown what she will do. But as Daniel notes the timing of her formation not only puts her on the radar for watching, but also because she formed on the same day as another Tropical Storm ALSO named Erin that ALSO formed while the peace process was underway. In that instance, that Erin formed while a memorandum was being signed concerning Israel’s security needs. That memorandum PROMISED certain security measures would be upheld by the U.S. to help secure Israel’s future.

The Voice of Erin : How Will You Carry the Burden?

While THIS Erin formed, we have a member of the Israeli Knesset questioning security but not in the broad sense of overall security for the country, but rather the threat now faced by individual mothers and their children. And the question Shaked poses cannot be answered by Secretary Kerry or President Obama without them looking like hypocrites, or worse, fools.

And strangely enough, as Israel is struggling to cope with the demands made by President Obama that determine not only the future of Israel but whether more women and children might die as a result of his demands, President Obama, when forced to step away from his vacation at Martha’s Vineyard to address the horrific violence that has erupted in Egypt, he said this very telling statement as a defense for his hands-off stance:

“America cannot determine the future of Egypt. That's a task for the Egyptian people. We don't take sides with any particular party or political figure.”

The Pentagon Has Lost Its Leverage with Egypt. Now What?

Really? President Obama has no problem making every effort to try and determine the future of Israel, and his team has openly shown on a number of occasions that they have embraced Palestinian sympathies, demands and preconditions, especially where "settlements" are concerned. Obama’s statement on Egypt’s future has exposed his hypocrisy on Israel’s. It is really fascinating to watch his stunning lack of self awareness.

Shaked had noted at the conclusion of her letter that perhaps Kerry’s, thus Obama’s, attention might be better served by focusing on true “hot spots” in the Mideast, such as Syria and Egypt. And she said that BEFORE the Egyptian body count started escalating yesterday.

How prescient.

Ayelet Shaked, who is a member of the Israeli government, has penned an open letter to Secretary of State John Kerry about him forcing Israel to release terrorists and murderers upon Israel.

Shaked voices the EXACT concerns I have had for the Israelis since I first noted that the release of these terrorists was part of the demands of President Obama to make the Israelis prove that they are serious about having talks with the Palestinians.

Shaked Lashes out in Letter to Kerry Over Terrorist Release

In letter publicized to the press, Shaked attacks US pressure to release terrorists: "You are putting me and my children's lives at risk"

Bayit Yehudi MK Ayelet Shaked has released a scathing open letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry, for pushing the Israeli government to release convicted terrorist murderers.

In the letter, Shaked - who recently called for the death penalty to be implemented for terrorists - wrote that:

"In light of the current situation that you have brought about, I feel that I cannot be bound by the restraints of 'politically correct' wording, and I therefore will allow myself to convey my following message to you in the most straightforward fashion."

She continued:

"By forcing Israel to capitulate to terrorism by releasing murdering terrorists with so much blood on their hands that the US would never dream of releasing if it was their own citizens murdered – you are not only being extremely hypocritical, but are actually dabbling in experimentation and gambling, by putting me and my children's lives at risk,"

Shaked also attacked the US administration for forcing Israel to release convicted murderers, whilst keeping former Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard in jail.

"You forcing us to release terrorists with blood on their hands is made all the more absurd, cynical and vicious by the fact that your country refuses to this day to release Jonathan Pollard from jail, despite the unprecedented term he has served thusfar," she wrote.

"Mr. Secretary: the price of releasing over a hundred convicted murderers will be borne by my family and my people, not by you." she continued, asking "How will you carry the burden of the terrible price toward which you are leading us?"

"You forced us into peace talks during a period of time that the entire Middle East is in chaos, without realizing that by doing so, you have foolishly put us in an impossible situation in which we cannot and will not make any concessions."

By "raising expectations to a dangerous level" in this way, Kerry is threatening "to cause the whole region to spin out of control," she claimed.

Shaked ended the letter with a word of "advice" for the US Secretary of State.

"The past four years in Israel have been as quiet and peaceful as ever. Therefore I suggest you perform your job in a much more effective and relevant fashion by focusing your attention on Syria and Egypt, where people are actually being slaughtered."

What more can I say other than this woman's words are so sobering.

In a curious "coincidence," on the SAME DAY as the Obama administration is pushing the peace talks forward in Jerusalem, talks which involved a promise from Israel to release 104 murderers, there was an interesting article about prison, but not about RELEASING prisoners, but about IMPRISONING someone.

Muslim Brotherhood claim: We've got 'goods on Obama':
Son of jailed leader says evidence could put U.S. president in prison

If it were not Walid Shoebat translating the report out of Turkey about this claim, I wouldn't have even linked to it but rather would have bookmarked it as "something to watch." But Shoebat is often quoted by various news organizations because of his knowledge about Middle Eastern affairs. It just might be worth watching to see what this claim is, IF anything. I have difficulty believing that John McCain or Lindsey Graham would have traveled to Cairo on behalf of Obama because of some "damaging" information. Though both men are Republican senators who rarely oppose President Obama, it still doesn't seem plausible to me that they would conduct such a fool's errand. But . . . I could be wrong. The old saying is that politics makes for some strange bedfellows. Nevertheless -- Obama forces Israel to release prisoners, then a Muslim Brotherhood leader makes a claim that he has information that could land Obama in prison. Weird.

One other note about a story that took place yesterday, on the SAME DAY as the talks in Jerusalem:

6th Hindenburg Omen In 8 Days Sends Stocks Slumping

The Hindenburg Omen: Wall Street Traders Are Worried Something Big Is Headed Their Way

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Under pressure from President Obama, Israel should be releasing some 26 terrorists today as part of a “goodwill gesture” toward the peace process.

Israel, unfortunately, has been pressured to walk down this road before, under President George W. Bush, and in 2008.

Daniel at Prayers for the People has written a post today contrasting and comparing the KIND of terrorists that Israel is currently releasing as a concession to President Obama with the terrorists that were released in 2008, as a concession to then President Bush. The key difference this time? The terrorists being released this time were sentenced for various murders; in 2008, they were terrorists who had not killed anyone.

Chilling in implication.

As noted on this blog numerous times as well as at Bill Koenig’s site, John McTernan’s site, and Daniel’s site, there are ALWAYS repercussions of some kind when ANY U.S. president pushes the peace process.

Daniel notes that in 2008, when Israel was pressured to release prisoners, the stock market began hemorrhaging wealth from the Fall of 2008 until March 2009.

Then, the third costliest hurricane season on record (at that time; after Superstorm Sandy, it is now considered the fourth) occurred as hurricane season really ramped up thru September and October that Fall.

Because of Obama’s insistence of prisoners being released as part of the peace process, strangely enough we here in the U.S. find ourselves suddenly paralleling the SAME time period from 2008.

In the last few days there have been several reliable voices from the market place warning that they are seeing ominous signs of turbulent financial waters ahead. Marc Faber has even compared the shakiness on Wall Street to similar conditions seen just prior to the stock market crash of 1987.

Art Cashin of UBS is warning that there have been “multiple occurrences of the Hindenburg Omen in the last several weeks.”

Wikipedia describes a “Hindenburg Omen” this way:

The Hindenburg Omen is a technical analysis pattern that is said to portend a stock market crash. It is named after the Hindenburg disaster of May 6, 1937, in which the Zeppelin airship Hindenburg crashed and burned.

King World News is reporting an interview with John Embry who gave this dire warning:

"We will now see historic and catastrophic wealth destruction. It’s going to be something to behold . . . “

As the peace process is being pushed, prodded and propelled toward the final goal of sectioning off parts of Israel and the division of Jerusalem, we are seeing warnings of difficult market turbulence coming rapidly down the pike toward us.

As Obama has pushed Israel to release terrorists, ALL of whom have blood on their hands, we have seen at least three main prison breaks in the Mideast, all involving terrorists who were in for murder and heinous crimes, and ALL of them involved with terrorist groups known for avowed hatred against the U.S.

In addition, we saw California forced to accept a significant release of prisoners, ostensibly to relieve overcrowding in California’s burdened prison system, as well as the announcement yesterday from the nation’s highest ranking law enforcement officer, Eric Holder, that he no longer wants states to enforce certain drug laws as he thinks they disproportionately hurt “persons of color,’ thus serve no relevant law enforcement purpose. Many state AGs reported that they were stunned to hear that since this administration, as in the instance of DOMA, doesn’t like certain drug laws states’ attorneys are to now ignore them.

Former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey explains Holders statements this way:

Congress has already passed a law that says judges don't have to follow mandatory minimums if certain criteria are met, such as the defendant having no criminal history and if there was no violence involved, Mukasey explained.

But that law applies at the sentencing stage, he said. Holder is ordering prosecutors to apply it at the charging stage "when you know very little about a defendant, right after he's arrested, and many of those criteria may not be met."

Based on Mukasey’s explanation and Holder’s reasoning for his position, one must ask if Holder is hinting that skin color trumps some drug crimes, or at least be taken into consideration BEFORE charging the individual?

One would hope ‘surely not.’

As Obama pushes Israel to release prisoners, ALL of whom were sentenced for murders committed, we have found ourselves facing a barage of prisoners, and criminals, being released upon this nation, many of whom are known murderers and violent offenders.

With the Israeli prisoners being proven murderers, are we going to find ourselves facing more and more terror attacks, perhaps along the lines of the Boston Marathon bombing, perhaps even with higher body counts or even more grievous wounds?

I hope not, but would not be surprised.

I agree with Daniel -- Mr. Netanyahu really needs our prayers. He has been pressed, and I'm sure hard, by President Obama to release murderers upon the Israelis. One can only wonder if Netanyahu agreed to this out of fear that there might not be an Israel to release them upon if he didn't. As Amnon Lord noted in his article for Ma'ariv (referenced to in Daniel's post), the Americans want Israel to "cut some flesh from your body so that we will know you are serious." Obama wants to see Israel bleed a little bit, to prove they want his help with Iran by showing a little blood first. Obama has pushed the Israelis to release evil upon their own people, and it appears that Obama has held Iran as the knife in Israel's back to do so. If true, in no way will that work out well for Obama, or for us. . . . emotionally, mentally, physically or financially.
