The Earthquakes of Oklahoma, The Vision, and the Book of The Revelation

Oklahoma has had nine earthquakes since Wednesday, 8/26. Eight of them were centered around Jones, Oklahoma, while one was near Ada.

While Oklahoma has tremors, on average 50 per year, they are relatively minor. We have no fault lines like San Andreas or seismic zones like the New Madrid. The largest earthquake experienced by the Sooner state was a 5.5 near El Reno, Oklahoma, on April 9, 1952.

But since the first of 2009, Oklahoma has had 25 earthquakes. Do they have prophetic significance? My answer would be "mostly likely."

I believe with all of my heart that in God's orderly world, nothing happens to the planet, such as earthquakes, without his permission. Isaiah 29: 6 seems to imply such: Thou shalt be visited of the LORD of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire. The Vision - David Wilkerson

David Wilkerson, pastor of Times Square Church in Manhattan, wrote The Vision in the early 70s. In that book, he wrote of a "soon-coming" devastating earthquake. I think this is a good time to look once again at what he wrote.

The United States is going to experience, in the not-too-distant future, the most tragic earthquake in its history. One day soon this nation will be reeling under the impact of the biggest news story of modern times. It will be coverage of the biggest, most disastrous earthquake in history.

It will cause widespread panic and fear. Without a doubt, it will become one of the most completely reported earthquakes ever. Television networks will suspend all programming and carry all-day coverage.

Another earthquake, possibly in Japan, may precede the one I see coming here. There is not the slightest doubt in my mind about this forth-coming massive earthquake on our continent. I believe it will be many times more severe than the San Francisco earthquake. In fact, I believe it is going to take place where it is least expected. This terrible earthquake may happen in an area that's not known as an earthquake belt. It will be so high on the Richter scale that it will trigger two other major earthquakes. I also believe we are going to see, later, a major earthquake in the Aleutian Islands, which will result in a number of smaller earthquakes and aftershocks all along the west coast of the United States.

Without a doubt, earthquakes are going to strike the United States and other parts of the world with growing intensity. Concern about earthquakes will be uppermost in forthcoming years. News about government scandals, news about war and even economic problems will be completely overshadowed by earthquakes. Within minutes after this quake hits, the whole country will know it, and millions will be stunned and shocked. Thousands will be affected with much loss of life and millions of dollars' worth of damage. Minor earthquakes, aftershocks, and tremors will be recorded almost daily throughout the world. Earthquakes will become the number one cause of fear and consternation.

The earth is actually going to shake, and there will be numerous other earthquakes in various places throughout the world. This is one kind of judgment that cannot be explained by the scientists. It is supernatural intervention into the affairs of men. It is an act of God causing havoc and judgment, calling men to repentance and reverence. It can strike at any time, and there is no way to deter it. Men will just have to stand back in awe and terror as the power of God is demonstrated in the earthquake.

I believe the recent earthquakes in Nicaragua and Mexico were a warning from Heaven that this is just the beginning. Seismic laboratories are even now recording tremors and aftershocks almost daily around the world. (emphasis mine)

My thoughts

San Andreas? Not likely since Wilkerson is "not at all convinced that this earthquake will take place in California. That statement would also seem to rule out the 1994 Northridge earthquake as well as having fulfilled this earthquake prophecy.

New Madrid? Strong candidate I would think. After I received 20-FOLD in June, I took another look at Wilkerson's prophecy of this forthcoming earthquake. There is a strong likelihood that his prophecy and mine are the same, particularly his statement of "This terrible earthquake may happen in an area that's not known as an earthquake belt." Since New Madrid is not an earthquake belt, it is a zone, this makes it seem likely.

Someplace else? Possibly. There are two of Wilkerson's statements that make me think it could be: "It will be so high on the Richter scale that it will trigger two other major earthquakes," and "I believe it is going to take place where it is least expected. This terrible earthquake may happen in an area that's not known as an earthquake belt."

When I first read The Vision in the mid-1990s (the part about this earthquake occurring in a "place where least expected"), I wondered if this massive earthquake would occur between the San Andreas and the New Madrid. A big one has been expected for some time on the San Andreas , and three of the largest known earthquakes occurred in the New Madrid zone in 1811-1812. Though scientists now claim that the New Madrid is dying, some disagree.

Since the prophecy also says "it will trigger two other major earthquakes," would a massive earthquake in between the two destabilize both areas enough to cause major earthquakes there as well?

I honestly don't know.

But what I do honestly know is this: the earthquakes we've been having here in Oklahoma are a reminder that God does allow earthquakes to happen. This country has been shown great mercy in that we have not had a severely devastating earthquake like some that have hit China, Iran, Pakistan, and Indonesia (Banda Aceh).

Yet we must realize that some day, we as a nation will be held accountable for the millions of unborn children slaughtered by abortion. We will answer for their blood as well as a number of other grievous sins, and we will answer for ignoring the great mercy we have been shown.

Nathan Leal at Watchman's Cry said something very true, and I will paraphrase him here: that when there is judgment, there is a body count.

Earthquakes in the Book of The Revelation

It is very apparent that God will cause earthquakes to occur during the time of the Tribulation.

The Sixth Seal

With the opening of the 6th seal, look at what happens:

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
(Rev 6: 12-17) (emphasis mine)

This looks like more than a massive earthquake. It looks like something happens in the heavens, because there is an earthquake AND the stars fall AND the heavens depart AND every mountain and island are moved out of their places AND the face of Him who sits on the throne is visible.

Considering this is the 6th seal and there is still one seal judgment to come as well as seven trumpet judgments and seven vial (or bowl) judgments, it will be bad early on.

The Seventh Seal

With the opening of the 7th seal there is "silence in heaven" for the space of "about half an hour." Seven angels carrying trumpets then assemble. Another angel takes a censer and takes fire from an altar, an altar which happens to be before God Himself.

And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast [it] into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.

And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
(Rev. 8: 1-6) (emphasis mine)

The angel with the censer is not part of the angels with the seals nor the angels with the trumpets. He casts a censer of fire to earth. This is not a meteor or asteroid or star or Jesus speaking to John would have said so. It has to be "something else," and whatever that "something else" is, it causes atmospheric disturbances, "voices," and an earthquake. My guess is that the earthquake occurs wherever the censer hits the ground.

The Two Witnesses

The next notable earthquake in the Tribulation period occurs with the TWO WITNESSES. The beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. Their bodies will lie on a street in Jerusalem and we know CNN will still be in business because many all over the world will see their bodies and "make merry" and "send gifts one to another."

After three and one-half days, the two will terrify many as they stand to their feet. A voice from heaven will tell them to "come up hither," and they will ascend to "heaven in a cloud," and their enemies shall see them go.

And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven. (Rev. 11: 7-13) (emphasis mine)

The Seventh Trumpet

After the 7th trumpet sounds and before the "vials of wrath" are poured out, the temple of God is opened in heaven and there are "lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail." (Rev. 11: 19) (emphasis mine)

The Seventh Vial

With the 7th vial, and the final judgment poured out upon the earth, there are voices, thunders, lightnings, and "a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great." (Rev. 16: 8)

No matter what magnitude of earthquake will be seen between this time and that time, we "ain't seen nothin' yet!" There are 21 "segments" of judgment/wrath that will come upon the earth. And the VERY LAST ONE will be THE MOST massive of all earthquakes, EVER!

I don't know the significance of these particular earthquakes at this time; I may find out later while in prayer or in conversation with someone who God has shown what is to be discerned. But I don't have to know the purpose of the quakes at this time to know that I should seek out what the Word of God has to say about such events. And to remember, as many good evangelists have asked, "If you were to die tonight, would you go to heaven. Have you asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins? Are you ready to meet Jesus?"

These earthquakes are reminding me to know the Word and be ready. God Bless! --GardenGirl
